Let’s talk about why augmented reality (AR) is important. (AR) is important for many reasons. Because of Covid 19, in person learning, training, teaching, and entertainment will change forever. On top of that resources are often scares in particular industries to provide the most equitable experiences to individuals. As a result of advances in technology, opportunities to improve performance and enhance experiences are now at our fingertips. The core essence of augmented reality is to use digital element in the real world to improve an experience. That improvement manifests itself as more immersive and interactive. As a result, individuals take away from that experience longer lasting effects. Set aside the wow factor that augmented reality provides initially, augmented reality lowers the cost of training tools because they don’t need to be built they need to be rendered. That lowers the amount of resources required to train and teach, and the scalability is infinite because scaling is dependent on the amount of AR device and not the amount of training equipment and space that is traditionally used.

With training, AR provides opportunities for training like never before. If a surgeon is preparing for a procedure, he can practice on an augmented version of the patient from MRI and CT scans that are rendered in 3D countless times. That reduces the percentage of error during a procedure because surgeons can practice more, and ultimately saves lives.

For entertainment, you see big opportunities with games and books. AR overlays videos and music over physical objects you can interact with and experience in a new way. Instead of reading a book, you can watch a book and interact with the characters during the story.
